As for starting a historical article, I think that could be a compromise (the Nickelodeon and Freeform articles cite precedent for this, plus HBO's history is meaty enough that such a solution would make more sense). Additionally, I'll try to make certain edits to the main body of the history (including condensing info on the development, and maybe rerouting some content on Sterling Manhattan to the Home Box Office, Inc. article), but a middle ground approach would work better as the amount of content removed did inadvertently lead to potential holes in the context.
