Patrick Chiwala

Patrick Chiwala (born 10 January 1953) is a Zambian long-distance runner. He competed in the marathon at the 1980 Summer Olympics.[1]

Chiwala was one of four Zambian athletes to be named to their 1978 All-African Games team, competing in the 10,000 metres. He miscounted his laps while running the race, leading to him not receiving a place.[2]

Chiwala then qualified to represent Zambia in the 10,000 m and marathon at the 1978 Commonwealth Games. In the 10,000 metres, Chiwala finished 17th in 32:14.89 minutes.[3] Five days later in the marathon, Chiwala ran 2:38:00 hours to place 22nd overall as the only Zambian to qualify. His marathon performance was described as poor compared to his personal best.[2][3] At another meeting in 1978, Chiwala ran his marathon personal best of 2:22:45 hours.[4]

Chiwala again qualified for the marathon at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. He started the race but did not finish.[5]
