Memoirs of Prison

Memoirs of Prison (Portuguese: Memórias do Cárcere) is a 1984 Brazilian drama film directed by Nelson Pereira dos Santos.[1] It is based on Memórias do Cárcere, an autobiographical novel by Graciliano Ramos, about the period he was a political prisoner during the Estado Novo dictatorship in Brazil.

The film had its world premiere at the Directors Fortnight section of the 1984 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize. It was selected as the Brazilian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 57th Academy Awards, but was not nominated.[2]
