ICDSoft is a web hosting company founded in 1999. As of December 2023, it provides hosting for about 53,000 websites worldwide. It provides shared and managed VPS hosting, enterprise solutions, email and reseller hosting, domain registration, and SSL certificates. In 2023, the company employed about 50 people. The main and only office is located in Sofia, Bulgaria.

History

Тhe first step (registering the icdsoft.com domain name) was made on October 12, 1999.[2] In 2000, the company started working in Hong Kong as a reseller of other hosting services. The company purchased its first own hosting server in 2001 and opened its headquarters in Sofia, Bulgaria, one year later. The Bulgarian company was founded in 2002 in Sofia by an employee, who later transferred the company rights to the actual founder, Dimitar Dimitrov. Since 2016, the company has started using a reduced-hour working model of 6.5 hours a day (very close to the four-day working week model), which seeks to minimize commuting and optimize the productivity of employees.[3]

Infrastructure and services

The company offers Linux-based hosting services with data centers in the United States (North America), Hong Kong (Asia), and Bulgaria (Europe). The company utilizes Apache, MySQL, PHP, and a highly-customized version of Debian. The company servers run on the Kernel-based Virtual Machine.

ICDSoft developed its own in-house Control Panel which does not require third-party licensing. It also offers an in-house developed Account Panel, similar in concept to WHMCS, to all customers for purchasing and managing services – hosting plans, domain names, SSL certificates, and upgrades.[4]

ICDSoft provides web hosting services for popular web-based software, e.g. WordPress, WooCommerce, Drupal, Joomla, Magento, PrestaShop.[5]

Initiatives and sponsorships

The company has developed software (an innovative photo registry) to enhance accountability in timber transportation in Bulgaria to prevent and address incorrect assessments and inaccurate reporting of the quantities of transported timber. This software has been donated in favor of the Southwest State Enterprise (SSE) and is part of the joint initiative between the two organizations to improve control and ensure full accountability for the timber harvested and transported from state-owned forests.[6]

The company's biggest environmental conservation effort is the firefighting brigade which has been in operation since 2012 with equipment worth over half a million dollars.[7][8][9][10]

The founder of ICDSoft, Dimitar Dimitrov, became the main sponsor of Zara Rutherford who broke the world record for youngest female pilot to fly solo around the world in 2021.[11] ICDSoft was the sole sponsor of Zara's brother, Mack Rutherford, who became the youngest person to fly around the world on August 24, 2022.[12][13] ICDSoft also sponsors the Lion Heart project which promotes outdoor endurance events.[14]

Philanthropy

For many years, ICDSoft has been involved in charity, mainly focused on local schools[15]. On September 20, 2018, ICDSoft started to offer free hosting and domains to educational institutions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ICDSoft provided oxygen concentrators and protective equipment to institutions in need.[16]

Following the December 26, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, ICDSoft donated one year of hosting service to all customers from these geographical regions.[17] ICDSoft continues to apply this practice to this day, in case of natural disasters or armed conflicts.[18]

During harsh winter months, ICDSoft provides free snow-clearing equipment to small communities to keep them connected to the rest of the world.[19]

Patents

The company also holds patents in the construction[20] and medicine fields.[21]
