Draft:Dr Sewanti Limaye

Sewanti Limaye is an Indian medical oncologist and precision‑oncology researcher. She leads the Department of Medical Oncology and Clinical Research at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, and founded the multidisciplinary ‘‘Illuminate Oncology Townhall’’ series. Limaye is noted for integrating immunotherapy and precision medicine into routine cancer care in India and has treated several high‑profile patients, including actor Sanjay Dutt.[1][2]

Career

After postgraduate oncology training in India and the United States, Limaye joined Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, where she set up its precision‑oncology programme.[3] She told the Hindustan Times in 2023 that “immunotherapy is the new era in cancer treatment”, contrasting its targeted action with the systemic toxicity of chemotherapy.[1]

Illuminate Oncology Townhall

Limaye convened the first Illuminate Oncology Townhall in 2023 and a second edition in February 2025, featuring global experts on prevention, early detection and personalised therapies.[4][5]

Research and advocacy

On World Cancer Day 2023 Limaye described precision oncology as “an orientation rather than a test or drug”, arguing that molecular tumour‑board decision‑making should become standard in India.[6] She has also warned that India’s ageing demographic profile will sharply increase the national cancer burden.[7]

Media commentary

  • Panel speaker, ‘‘Programme on Awareness of Cancer Screening’’, ICAI Aurangabad (2024).[9]
