On March 3, 2025, a driver rammed a car into a crowd at Paradeplatz, a popular pedestrian area in Mannheim, Germany. The attack resulted in at least two fatalities and injuries to approximately 25 individuals. The driver fled the scene but was apprehended by armed police.[1][2][3]
The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, with authorities yet to determine whether it was deliberate or accidental.[1][2][3]
Attack
The attack took place just after 12:00 local time (11:00 GMT) at the western German city's Paradeplatz market square. The driver drove the car into a crowd of people, hitting several of them before the car stopped. Eyewitnesses reported a chaotic scene, with multiple victims lying on the ground. The city's hospital declared a disaster alert, and authorities advised residents to avoid the downtown area during the emergency response.[4]
Modus Operandi
This incident adds to a series of recent vehicle-ramming attacks in Germany, including a fatal attack in Munich last month and a deadly crash at a Christmas market in Magdeburg last year.[5]
