Controversy

In late March 2025, it was revealed that four months earlier Picierno had participated in a meeting with the Israel Defense and Security Forum (IDSF), a far-right Israeli think tank supporting illegal settlements in the West Bank. The case, unfolding during the Gaza war, was met with criticism both from within her party and other political forces, with Andrea Orlando, Susanna Camusso, Laura Boldrini, Arturo Scotto and Nico Stumpo calling for a removal of IDSF from the registries of the European Parliament. Picierno claimed that "isolating Israel means comdemning an entire area to an eternal right-wing sovereigntism", receiving support from other Democratic Party members Filippo Sensi, Simona Malpezzi and Piero Fassino.[12]
