Hadžiristića Street
Hadžiristića Street (Bosnian: Ulica Hadžiristića; Serbo-Croatian Cyrillic: Улица Хаџиристића) is a short but historically and culturally significant street located in the municipality of Stari Grad, Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Situated between Sarajevo City Hall and the Latin Bridge, the street is part of the city's Ottoman-era core and serves today as a pedestrian-only zone known for its vibrant nightlife and café culture.[1]
History
The street derives its name from the Hadžiristić family, an Orthodox Christian merchant family that settled in Sarajevo from Čajniče in the second half of the 18th century. One of the most notable family members, Kosta Hadžiristić, was a trader and civic figure.[2] The street name was retained through the Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslav periods, highlighting the family's long-standing historical significance in the city.[3]
Description
Hadžiristića Street is entirely closed to vehicular traffic, functioning as a pedestrian promenade. Its short length and central location make it a key connector between some of Sarajevo's most iconic landmarks, including the Latin Bridge, the Emperor's Mosque, and the Sarajevo City Hall.
In recent decades, the street has developed a reputation as a nightlife hub. It is lined with bars, cafés, and lounges, and is especially popular in the evenings and on weekends with both locals and tourists. Its relaxed pedestrian character makes it a frequented social space and part of the broader revitalization of Sarajevo's historic center.[4]
