Apparently Mr Taylor of the British Museum, mentioned in the preface as follows: Unpretending as I intend this book to be, I cannot yet send it before the world without an acknowledgment to those who have helped me, not only by collecting information, but by harder and drier work. When I thought the book well-nigh completed, I found it was necessary that many historical facts and quotations should be verified or checked. Going abroad made this double task almost hopeless, and I do not know what I should have done without the kind and valuable aid of my friends, Miss Probyn and Sir James Lacaita, and Mr. Taylor, of the British Museum.
